Release Planning

  • Edward Ting : LTS is important, but I'm not sure that we have the resources at this time to support an LTS
  • There is no clear roadmap for features in the release.
    • This needs to be clearly articulated in the release documentation
    • Casey: Suggestion that we have a topic at the Virtual Developer & Testing Forum to talk about release planning for the next release and decide feature mapping
  • PSS: We need a community release plan and target a specific release window.
    • PSS Agree that we can not do an LTS release at this time.
    • We need to get a list of features from Juniper for the "Bridge Release".
    • PSS will share more information
  • While discussing the requirements for participation, planning section a question was raised about what defines a project
    • SK: We could do it by a grouping of features or the repo itself becomes a project
    • UI
    • Integration
    • Documentation
    • Infra
    • config
    • control
    • datapath
      • These are great, maybe we can start to more clearly define these groups and assign a scope?
      • PSS: The Community Community Release Manager could help us with these definitions

Collaboration with ONAP

  • PSS: We want to participate in cross-project collaboration with ONAP.  OpenContrail was a part of ECOMP and support fell off when it became ONAP.  It makes sense for us to try to rekindle that collaboration and bridge the gap.  The issue is that we may not have enough resources to support this effort.
    • HL: I will be reaching out to our internal team to see if we can get some additional resources to support ONAP integration.
  • PSS:  Who is looking forward to this collaboration and is there any volunteers.
    • SK: I have an interest, but I don't have cycles.  Alex's team will be working with OPNFV to help with installers.  There may be some additional collab with ONAP in that effort.
    • Randy was looking into adding support staff to help with integration efforts.
    • SA: We are looking to integrate into ONAP into our 5G story, but we are OVS based.  We could work on it in a lab setting for now.
      • SK asked if Stackpath would start a lab project with 5G/ONAP
      • SK talked about a collaboration with ONAP/5G/TF/Stackpath and do a PoC Demo.
      • Casey suggested that it would make a good PoC Demo to present at a major conference to enhance the story of TF, Stackpath, and the other platforms involved.

SA had some great comments about some areas that may be helpful in improving TF in the future.  Casey & Prabhjot suggested that it would make a great TWS topic.

Action items
