The role of the TSC Chair is to lead the TSC through meetings and discussions on relevant topics as well as be the interface between the TAC and the Tungsten Fabric Community. To this end the TSC chair needs to have the interest and bandwidth to engage with the TAC and Community along with LF staff to determine and prioritize TSC discussions and actions.

Key responsibilities include:

Provide overall leadership and direction for the TSC

  • Chair the TSC Meetings by preparing meeting agendas and ensure all topics are addressed with the necessary and sufficient depth

  • Help to resolve conflicts that may arise within the TSC

  • Assign and follow up on action items as appropriate

  • Statement of intent:

    It is critical to me that we advance the TF community interests as follows:
    1. Complete full separation from Juniper and remove all Juniper Networks dependencies
    2. Drive greater developer engagement through developer summits and broaden our base of contributors
    3. Penetrate the Kubernetes ecosystem by becoming one of the mostly advanced and broadly adopted security and networking solutions for k8s
    4. Create a greater sense of transparency and accountability within the community for our roadmap and ongoing development process
  • Biography: 

    Randy Bias is an entrepreneur, writer, speaker and futurist in cloud computing. He accurately predicted the geometric growth rate of AWS, is an advocate for open source technology and was among the first to identify the 30-year shifts from mainframe to client/server to cloud. Randy popularized the pets vs. cattle meme as a construct for describing the fundamental difference between how enterprise stacks and cloud stacks are managed. 

    Randy is a pioneer and early, vocal advocate for the OpenStack project, and has led teams that achieved numerous cloud firsts, including the first public cloud in Korea, the first global carrier NFV cloud, and the first “cattle cloud” for a Fortune 5 company. As a strategic R&D lead at Dell EMC, Randy led the open sourcing of several products, and today serves as Vice President Technology and Strategy, Open Source Software at Juniper Networks.

    Most importantly, Randy was the instigator of the OpenContrail community reboot and led the charge to remove dependency on a single vendor and the transition to the Tungsten Fabric community.  He currently sits on the Tungsten Fabric TSC, LFN TAC, the LF Edge Governing Board, and the AECC Governing Board.

    Statement of Intent: I have been member of the TF community since the days of "OpenContrail reboot summit" and since then I have been leading and driving

    the technical discussions in the community. TF still faces a lot of technical challenges which I want to continue driving to resolution with the rest of the community and make the project easier to get adopted and build a stronger developer community. I think this is extremely important at these early stages of the project.
    At the same time I want to facilitate the community members who want to enable their usecases and get the analysis done in an open environment I also want to make sure that TF as a community is a fair, really open source focused community and my previous experience in similar activities (Linux kernel developer, OPNFV developer, CentOS SIG groups etc) will come in handy, especially when we have to work with these other communities.

    Short Biography: I am a Software Architect for SDN and NFV with the Networking Platform Group of Intel. I have worked several years doing  hands on development of networking stacks and I have done DPDK and Linux kernel development. At the same time I have been leading teams  integrating NFV stacks. The combination of deep knowledge of hardware such as NICs and CPU architecture, together with low level networking programming and a clear understanding of the integration problems allow me to be able to direct the technical discussions focusing on things that matter. Hopefully your experience with me being the acting chair of the TF TC since the first "Reboot Summit" and leading the SmartNIC
    offloads discussions proves that.
